Skinney Medspa and Warren
By Kari Molvar
With the rise of pop-up shops and collaborations seen everywhere—apothecaries in hotel lobbies, fashion purveyors in food eateries—it's become quite easy to check off multiple errands in one spot. Yet when it comes to certain beauty services, namely anything involving a laser, needle, or fat-zapping machine, conventional wisdom dictates that it's best to visit the doctor's office. I mean, how else can you be assured your treatment will be up to snuff? Well, a convincing case has been made for branching out, now that top-notch Skinney Medspa has teamed up with the Warren-Tricomi salon to open a comprehensive beauty haven in the Flatiron, offering all manner of cosmetic enhancements under the same roof, with shampoo and coloring stations.
But before you raise a skeptical eyebrow, consider the credentials behind the space. Skinney founders and aestheticians Adriana and Marisa Martino haven't met a laser they haven't mastered (both twin sisters started their training in 2005), and they’ve recruited Dr. David Rapaport____, a New York plastic surgeon (and former chief resident at Harvard Medical School), to serve as their medical director, overseeing the more-involved procedures. The menu ranges from laser hair removal and dermal fillers to cellulite-blasting Liposonix and fat-freezing CoolSculpting, to the ever popular Vampire Facelift, which entails injecting your own platelet-rich blood into your face for a youth boost (model Bar Refaeli is a fan, as per her Instagram feed). And rest assured: all techniques are F.D.A.-approved, and nothing is done "off-label."
On the salon side, there's hardly a pampering whim Warren-Tricomi can't satisfy, whether it's sun-kissed highlights, sexy-chic haircuts, restorative hair treatments, or fantastic blow-outs. Appointments with the owners can be arranged (colorist Joel Warren takes clients on Wednesdays, while Edward Tricomi cuts hair on Fridays), and famed brow specialist Kristie Streicher routinely flies in from L.A. to perform her feathered shaping method here. How spoiled can you get?
And that is perhaps the most appealing aspect—the sheer convenience of it all in one location. Because this concept works for their clients, the quartet of founders have plans to expand (look for Skinney Medspa to appear in more Warren-Tricomi locations, most likely the Plaza hotel next, and the menu to include spray tans and lashes soon). As Martino expresses, "We want to make women feel beautiful without having to taxi all over town." I couldn't agree more.
